JPJ, PDRM extends deadline on “discounted summons” after overwhelming response

The response to the discounts of up to 80% on traffic summonses by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has been beyond overwhelming, to the point the organisers at the KL Convention Centre (KLCC) had their counters closed and even been issued a fine of RM1,000 for failing to adhere to SOPs.

As such, both the JPJ and PDRM have extended the deadline of the “promotion”, which was originally scheduled to end yesterday. JPJ will extend the offer of up to 80% discount to December 15th, this Wednesday. Summonses can be paid at the JPJ payment counters at their state offices, branches, or UTC and cashless payment is encouraged.

Terms and conditions of the discounts have not been changed, with discounts only offered to compoundable offences.

Meanwhile, due to the sheer volume of unpaid summonses as well as lack of transaction channels (we have seen postings of long queues at traffic police stations), the PDRM has extended their deadline to December 31st.

Apart from physically performing payments at PDRM Traffic payment counters as well as Police Contingent Head Office (IPPK), summonses can be paid at Maybank ATMs, Pos Malaysia as well as on the ‘MyBayar Saman’ smartphone application.

In a separate announcement on Bernama, PDRM has seen 2.3 million summonses cleared over the four days of promotion, amounting to RM109 million. The Inspector-General of Police Datuk Sri Acryl Sani Hj. Abdullah Sani has instructed his team to add more payment counters nationwide to reduce congestion.

The promotion to encourage road users to settle their unpaid summonses was in conjunction with the government’s “100-Hari Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia” (AKM) programme that was held in KLCC over the weekend.
