Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia delivered a record-high 1,521 Tritons in September

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has announced its sales figures for the month of September 2021, in which the company delivered a total of 6,907 units to new owners.

Among that figure, 1,521 units alone were contributed by the Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck – the highest that MMM has ever delivered in a single month. With that, the Triton’s market share in the pick-up truck segment has also increased to 34%, the highest it has enjoyed thus far.

On the other hand, the Mitsubishi Xpander has now taken the crown as Malaysia’s best-selling non-national MPV, with close to 13,000 bookings since its launch in November 2020. Thus far, the company has delivered 5,756 units to new owners.

MMM attributed the growth in sales to the recent reopening of the automotive industry; specifically, the high number of deliveries was in part due to the company currently fulfilling the backlogged orders that accumulated during the months in lockdown.

Taking into account the latest sales figures, the Mitsubishi Triton has recorded a 5.1% increase in sales performance in the first half of MMM’s FY2021 (April – September), compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the company’s overall market share has also increased to 3.9% of the Total Industry Volume (TIV), compared to 1.7% in the same time period last year.

“After a few months of challenging market situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the team at Mitsubishi Motors is working with our best efforts to improve production, delivery timing, and to recover from backlog orders fulfilment for the Xpander and Triton,” said MMM Chief Executive Officer, Tomoyuki Shinnishi.

“We would like to thank our customers who have shown us support and have been patient with us. As the nation moves towards the endemic era and with the resumption of the automotive supply chain and showrooms opening, we are confident for optimistic sales numbers over the second half of our Financial Year,” Shinnishi added.
