Facts & Figures: 2022 Proton Persona facelift launched – from RM45,200



Since the acquisition by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, Proton’s pace of introducing updated products has been at an incredibly fast rate. We now have the second facelift of the popular Proton Persona sedan, just two years after the first big update. The company also unveiled the new Proton Iriz Active together with the new Persona.

The new facelifted Proton Persona 2022 is only available in three variants – Standard CVT at RM45,200, Executive CVT at RM50,100 and Premium CVT at RM54,900. The prices are on-the-road, without insurance and inclusive of the sales tax exemption that is valid until December 31st 2021.

The 5-speed manual transmission variant has been discontinued from this 2022 facelift model year. All models are equipped with the same 1.6-litre engine making 109 hp and 150 Nm of torque.

EXTERIOR

Being a facelift, changes are focused on the exterior and in particularly, just the front bumper and incorporating grille. The facelifted Proton Persona 2022 now bears the new circular Proton logo introduced in early 2020 via the CKD Proton X70.

The new bumper design applies more paint at the corner sections where the DRLs are and a more pronounced central section in black. Larger 16-inch wheels are also fitted on the new Proton Persona 2022 and wrapped with 185/55R16 tyres.

Exterior highlights of the new facelift Proton Persona 2022 are:

  • Redesigned front bumper
  • Redesigned front grille with chrome
  • Darkened red finishing on tail lamps
  • 16-inch wheels (Executive- single tone, Premium dual-tone)
  • LED headlamps with auto on/off and follow-me-home (Premium)
  • Black-painted roof and rear spoiler (Premium)

A new colour has also been added, with the Proton Persona 2022 Premium variant easily distinguishable with the new Space Grey paintwork. There are six colours available in total, but respective variants are limited to four or five colours.

INTERIOR

The most noticeable change to the interior of the facelift Proton Persona 2022 is the introduction of a new centre cluster which sees the fitment of a new 8-inch free-standing infotainment central display. The air vents have also been repositioned and additional USB charging slots have been included.

The new infotainment system in the Premium variant has been upgraded with additional “Hi Proton” voice commands, such as changing the settings of the air-conditioner and operation of the driver’s power window. The Premium variant is also fitted with leatherette upholstery and are the same shade of colour as found in the Proton X70.

Further down of the redesigned centre cluster is the conveniently located switches for ECO mode, electronic stability control and parking sensors.  

Interior highlights of the new facelift Proton Persona 2022 are:

  • New 8-inch free-standing infotainment display (except Standard)
  • New air-conditioning control panel
  • 5 USB charging ports (2 front, 2 rear and 1 above the rearview mirror)
  • New front armrest with large storage space
  • Brown leatherette seats (Premium)
  • N95 cabin filter

The standard variant priced at RM45,200 gets fabric covered seats, basic steering wheel, basic keyfob entry and ignition start, fixed rear seats and the standard audio with two speakers.

PERFORMANCE

The facelifted Proton Persona 2022 continues with the tried and tested 1.6-litre VVT engine with CVT transmission. Power outputs are 109 hp and 150 Nm of torque.

  • Max torque: 150 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

SAFETY

The safety kit from the Premium variant is similar as before, with no additional advanced driver assistance included. The standard kit include:

  • 5-Star Asean NCAP rating
  • Front and side airbags (4 airbags)
  • Rear seat ISOFIX and top tether anchorage
  • ABS with EBD, brake assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Traction control
  • Hill Hold Assist

The Proton Persona 2022 Premium and Executive variants add a reverse camera and front parking sensor but only the Premium variant continues to be equipped with six airbags.  

Clean air is now the utmost importance! The air-conditioning system in Protons are now fitted with N95 filters.

PRICING

The facelift Proton Persona 2022 range starts at RM45,200 for the Standard variant, RM50,100 for the Executive variant and topping off at RM54,900 for the Premium variant.

Prices are inclusive of the sales tax exemptions, which are applicable for all purchases until the 31st of December 2021.

Include in the price is a five-year or 150,000 km warranty and free service labour for three intervals.
