BMW Group Malaysia has restructured the retail prices of its new vehicles. Let’s take a deeper look to find out how the BMW restructured retail price looks like and what it means to customers.
A new column has been added to the price list and it lists “With extended warranty and service package”. BMW Group Malaysia has now made its signature five-year unlimited mileage warranty and service inclusive package as a customizable selection.
“BMW Group Malaysia is now offering our dealers and customers greater flexibility in terms of customizable specifications and warranty on their BMW and MINI vehicles, all of which can be done on the new digital interfaces of BMW Shop Online and MINI Online Shop. This also enables a more direct interaction between our dealer network and their respective customers for a more personalized product offerings at attractive prices,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.
Customers now get to alter the purchase value of their new BMW vehicle, either taking just the standard two-year unlimited mileage warranty coverage with a new retail price or include everything which sees the price being maintained whilst transitioning from 2020 to this year.
So what does the BMW restructured retail price look like? Take the latest BMW 218i Gran Coupe as an example, a customer can now purchase the stylish vehicle for under RM200k at RM199,177 but only comes with a two-year unlimited mileage warranty coverage and no service package.
The customer can just singularly select the five-year extended warranty coverage for RM 5,300. Choosing the extended warranty coverage together with the 100,000-kilometre service package will price the vehicle at RM 211,367, no changes compared to last year.
As for the recently introduced BMW M3 and M4 Competition models with sub-RM700k pricing, it excludes the 2021 aftersales package. Buyers can top up an additional RM26,240 for the said warranty and service package, which will bump up the M4 Competition’s price to RM711,040, before adding the Innovation package and carbon-ceramic braking system.
Extension of the warranty coverage for popular models like the 3 Series and X1 Series is priced at RM5,900, while the 5 Series requires RM2,000 more at RM7,900.
Meanwhile, the five-year / 100,000-kilometre service package that includes replacement of lubricants and air filters is priced at RM8,800 for the 3 Series and RM10,900 for the 5 Series. Interesting to note that the 100% electric BMW i3s only requires a service package of RM2,700.
Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models still have their battery warranty extension programme that covers the battery and its units for a total of 8 years or 160,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. It also looks like there will be a revision to this warranty coverage, as BMW Malaysia listed the validity for purchases only until 31st March 2021.
The BMW restructured retail price is undoubtedly targeting a very specific group of owners. The restructuring allows customers to opt-out of the long term warranty and aftersales lock-in period, which some fleet owners are not keen on as they have their service providers.
