Brunei becomes the first export market for the Proton X70

Proton has begun exporting the updated CKD version of the Proton X70, which was launched here earlier this year, to Brunei. This makes the oil-rich country the first export market for the Proton X70 we test drove in Kuantan.

Brunei was also the first export market for the CBU version of the Proton X70 launched here in December 2018. The updated X70 was launched in Brunei on the 6th of September 2020.

The locally-assembled Proton X70 will be sold in Brunei in three different variants – Standard, Executive and Premium X – with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

It’s powered by the same 1.8-litre turbocharged engine with 181 hp but with the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, torque figures have been bumped up an extra 15 Nm to 300 Nm. Its 0 to 100 km/h time has also been slashed by a full second to 9.5 seconds.

“PROTON is excited the Malaysian made 2020 Proton X70 has been launched in its first export market as exports will play an increasingly important role in growing our sales. With its combination of innovative features and comprehensive list of safety equipment we believe the X70 will gain support from car buyers not only in Brunei, where it has already attracted a strong following but also wherever it is sold around the world,” said CEO of Proton Edar, Roslan Abdullah.

The 2020 Proton X70 has been a popular choice amongst Malaysia SUV buyers since its launch in February this year, with 12,732 units delivered up to the end of August 2020.
