2020 Toyota Hilux facelift now open for booking in Malaysia!

Shortly after its global introduction, UMW Toyota has now announced that the 2020 Toyota Hilux is now open for booking in Malaysia, starting from an estimated price of RM93,880 for the Single Cab 2.4 MT 4×4.

A total of five variants will be on offer, including the aforementioned workhorse Single Cab 2.4 MT (RM93,880), a new Double Cab 2.4 E AT (RM109,880), Double Cab 2.4 G MT (RM112,880), Double Cab 2.4 V AT (RM134,880) which is an upgrade from the current L-Edition, and the Double Cab 2.8 Rogue AT (RM148,880) which replaces the current Black Edition.

Only the range-topping 2.8 Rogue AT will receive upgrades to its powertrain this update cycle, featuring an improved version of the 1G-FTV 2.8-litre turbodiesel mill, now rated for an output of 204 hp and 500 Nm of twist (a 27 hp and 50 Nm bump).

The new and improved engine features a two-stage oil pump that can optimally switch the oil pressure resulting in better fuel-efficiency, along with a new water-cooled double-pipe type pre-EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) cooler to better manage EGR temperatures.

Otherwise, variants with the “2.4” designation gets the 2GD-FTV 2.4-litre turbodiesel unit that’s carried over from the current model, good for 150 hp and 400 Nm of torque. As for transmission, The Single Cab and Double Cab 2.4 G models will be offered with a six-speed manual transmission, while the rest gets a six-speed automatic box.

Other mechanical upgrades found on the new Hilux, with the sole exception of the Single Cab variant, include a new power-assisted rack and pinion steering column with a new Variable Flow Control System which helps reduces the demand on the power steering pump, resulting in better fuel economy, while steering feel is also improved across the speed range.

The new Hilux has also been fitted with a new automatic limited slip differential (LSD) to aid traction in conjunction with the traction control system – controlling braking and engine output when one of the rear wheels start to spin. The system operates only in High range and in 2WD mode at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Aside from the drivetrain, the biggest update to the venerable Hilux is the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) advanced driver assistance features, which includes Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Yaw Assist.

As for looks, the 2020 model – which is the second facelift to the eight-generation Toyota Hilux – gains a refreshed front end with a larger hexagonal-shaped grille, flanked by slimmer head lights. The front bumper has also been reworked, along with a newly-designed fog lamps enclosures, while the rear gains new redesigned taillights.

Most of the visual flair goes to the top-of-the-range Rogue variant, which gains new bonnet moulding and skid plate; other variants below it get newly-designed 17- or 18-inch wheels.

Changes on the inside are less apparent. Notable interior kit include a new interior trim design, new instrument cluster design, as well as the addition of an illuminated door trim garnish. The base model also now gets a multi-information display in the instrument cluster.

Buyers can choose between seven exterior colour choices for the 2020 Toyota Hilux, including the new Bronze Mica Metallic, Crimson Spark Red Metallic, Attitude Black Mica, Phantom Brown Metallic, Medium Silver Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Super White II. The Hilux Single Cab is only available in Solid White.

The 2020 Toyota Hilux is now available for booking at all authorised Toyota dealerships across Malaysia. As mentioned above, estimated prices start at RM93,880 for the base model Single Cab variant, and they are priced for on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of sales tax. The finalised pricing will be announced later during the official launch.

For customers interested in the top-of-the-range 2.8 Rogue variant, UMW Toyota is currently offering a special early-bird price of RM144,880 (RM4,000 off) for all purchases made in 2020.
