The Aston Martin Vantage AMR Malaysia is probably the coolest “Merdeka Edition” you’ll ever see!

It’s not uncommon to see car brands coming up with special editions to celebrate our pride and love for our country around the independence day celebrations, especially since we Malaysians are such a patriotic crowd.

In recent years, we’ve seen the MINI Cooper Countryman, Volkswagen Beetle, and of course our new national icon Proton X70 donned in Merdeka colours, but none of those will ever be as cool as this, not by a long shot – the Aston Martin Vantage AMR Malaysia limited edition.

In conjunction with the upcoming Merdeka celebrations, Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur has introduced a limited edition model for the Vantage sports car, dubbed AMR Malaysia, with the only unit now in Malaysia, on display at the Aston Martin showroom in the city centre.

To be clear, this isn’t actually the 200-unit-only Vantage AMR, but a Vantage V8 fitted with a boat load of additional options for a look that is “inspired” by the track-focused sportscar. So no, there’s no seven-speed manual transmission here.

On the exterior, the AMR Malaysia limited edition features Lime Green Essence accent colours on the front grille surrounds as well as the rear diffusers, mimicking the look of the actual AMR, paired to the Arden Green exterior paintjob.

Other configured options on the limited edition include the twill carbon fibre pack, matte black window surrounds and perforated side gills, while the mirror caps and roof are painted gloss black. The Aston Martin Vantage AMR Malaysia rides on 20-inch forged wheels, with a “Textured Dark” finish.

Inside, the limited edition model once again gets adorned with Lime Green Essence highlights on the centre console, door trim inlays, as well as the contrast stitching and Aston Martin Wing embroidery on the black Sports Plus seats. Otherwise, interior ornaments are finished in Satin Silver.

The Vantage AMR Malaysia limited edition is also fitted with the Sports+ leather flat-bottomed steering wheel, a technology pack that includes Blind Spot Monitoring and Auto Park Assist, glass switches, 360-degree camera, as well as the Aston Martin Premium Audio.

Underneath the additional visual flair and options, the AMR Malaysia limited edition is still a Vantage V8, which means it’s powered by the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, generating 510 hp and 685 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF gearbox and an E-Diff.

Performance wise, the AMR Malaysia limited-edition Vantage V8 will reach 100km/h from standstill in 3.6 seconds, onward to a top speed of 314 km/h.

No pricing has been announced for the Aston Martin Vantage AMR Malaysia limited edition, but that means you’ll be able to specify it exactly to your liking. As for the Vantage V8 that was launched locally in 2018, the base price without options starts at RM1.6 million after tax (RM678K before tax).
