Everything just looks more beautiful with cherry blossoms in the background, don’t you think? This MINI Cooper Convertible Sidewalk seems to have proven so.
Special spring messengers is what MINI calls them – an indicator that spring has arrived and a symbol of anticipation for magical moments to be celebrated together in the open air, it seems.
It’s beautiful, we get it and if I’m honest, there’s not much to this aside from a collection of beautiful images. Car companies are finding it difficult to produce content with the global lockdown so the cheeky boys and girls from MINI took this opportunity for shout about the MINI Convertible Sidewalk and how it’s the most “spring time” vehicle you can buy – we wouldn’t disagree.
This colourful splendour is located at Breite Straße (or rather Broad Street) in Bonn – once the capital of Germany. Contrasting the white and pink, is a Deep Laguna metallic Convertible Sidewalk, with 17-inch light alloy Scissor Spoke wheels. Convertible Sidewalk and Scissor Spoke – MINI is just going to town with the names, aren’t they?
The Sidewalk is sheltered by a roof that features artistically-woven arrow graphics and takes just 18 seconds to open up. With that, MINI said the first blossoms are able to fall on the anthracite-coloured seats contrasted with Petrol and Energetic Yellow stitching, but no thanks – vacuuming isn’t what I’d call recreational.
The four-seater Convertible Sidewalk is available with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with either 102 hp or 136 hp or a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder with 192 hp in the Cooper S Convertible Sidewalk. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual clutch unit.
Locally, the Sidewalk Convertible model isn’t available yet but you can still acquire a Cooper S Convertible, for RM279,888 on-the-road. It comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 192 hp and 280 Nm. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something much more exclusive, check out the 60 Years Edition model with – you’ve guessed it – only 60 units available in Malaysia.
