The 2019 Mazda CX-5 2.5L Turbo AWD has been previewed in Malaysia as the new top-of-the-line variant for our local market. The new variant introduces the 2.5L SkyActiv-G turbocharged engine to the CX-5 lineup, previously available exclusively on the CX-9.
The 2.5L turbocharged engine produces 228 hp and 420 Nm of torque at just 2,000 rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels with the AWD system, through a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode; pedal shifters are ommited on this SUV.
Styling wise, it is identical to the current CKD variants. The new 2.5-litre CX-5 is equipped with automatic LED front and rear combination lights, LED daytime running lights, automatic windshield wipers and a powered tailgate. The new top-of-the-line variant comes with 19-inch wheels with 225 section tyres.
On the inside, you get full leather upholstery, fully powered front seats with added memory function for the driver side, a centre console with updated switchgear for the dual-zone climate control, and a new driver’s instrument cluster with a 7-inch digital display in the centre with analogue dials on the sides, similar to the one available on the 2019 Mazda3. There is also a new windshield-projected heads-up display.
The infotainment system has also been updated to the latest Mazda Connect Infotainment System with voice command, and now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Safety specs of the 2.5-litre CX-5 comes with 6 airbags, anti-lock braking system, traction control, dynamic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, emergency stop signal, and hill launch assist, but the Mazda Radar Cruise Control system isn’t present.
The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine is currently only available in all-wheel drive variants for the Malaysian market. Official pricing and release date has not been announced yet, but we can expect it to be priced around RM180,000 according to the sales personnel present at the preview.
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 2.5L Turbo AWD is available for viewing at Sunway Pyramid (Blue Atrium), from the 4th to 9th of September 2019.
