Proton sold 7,011 cars in April, surpassed Honda for number 2 spot

Proton continued its strong upward momentum in 2019, delivering 7,011 cars in April which translates to a 75% increase compared to the same period last year. This achievement places Proton as the Number 2 automotive brand in Malaysia for the month of April, reclaiming this title for the first time since February 2016.

The strong sales performance was bolstered by the high demand for Saga and X70. In fact, the Saga displaced the X70 as the best-selling Proton model in April with 3,047 units sold. Sales were also further boosted by the official launch of the facelifted Iriz and Persona which gathered over 4,000 bookings prior to the launch.

Chief Executive Officer of Proton, Dr Li Chunrong said: “Proton’s sales achievement in April is testament to how the company is moving in the right direction thanks to Malaysian car buyers regaining confidence in the brand and its products. It also showcases the value of the Proton X70 at driving traffic to our showrooms, resulting in other models getting more attention as customers are reminded of the value, quality and safety of all Proton vehicles.”

To date, Proton’s overall sales have grown by 50.2% compared to the previous year despite the downturn in Total Industry Volume. Proton is also the only automotive brand in the top five ranking to record a positive growth in sales in April.
