UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has opened the order books for the new Toyota Avanza 1.5X. The new variant which sits just below the range-topping 1.5S gets a more rugged exterior theme for those who prefer a sporty family MPV.
The new variant gets new black painted body kit extensions on the front and rear bumper as well as the wheel arches. The extended fenders give additional protection from debris kicking into the body paint and a lowered stance.

At the rear, there are new rear combination reflector units integrated to the taillamps to add a distinct look to the Avanza. Elsewhere, customers can add on the Roof Ornament and 16-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels for a fee.
Inside, the Avanza 1.5X gets the same equipment as before – three-spoke multifunctional urethane steering wheel, fabric seats, manual air conditioning and rear air blowers. In typical Toyota fashion, the infotainment screen can be upgraded to the DVD-AVX or DVD-AVN which comes with a reverse camera.
No changes to the mechanical components, you’ll get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine paired to a four-speed automatic gearbox to give 104 hp and 136 Nm of torque. If you are not aware already, the Avanza is rear-wheel driven.
Safety wise, the Avanza 1.5X gets dual SRS front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and ISOFIX mounting points on the second row. Unfortunately, electronic stability control is missing from the spec-sheet unlike the Honda BR-V which comes with ESC as standard across the range.
Like all models distributed by UMWT, the Toyota Avanza comes with a 5-Years Unlimited Mileage warranty which is transferable to the next owner if the car is within the warranty period. The new Avanza 1.5X will be available for viewing from 24 February 2018 onwards at all Toyota showrooms nationwide.
