Introducing the Polestar 1 – a performance hybrid like no other, 600 hp & 1000 Nm!

Not long after announcing its breakaway from Volvo to develop high performance EV’s as a sub-brand, Polestar has revealed the Polestar 1 – the company’s first car set for production by 2019.

“Polestar 1 is the first car to carry the Polestar on the bonnet. A beautiful GT with amazing technology packed into it – a great start for our new Polestar brand. All future cars from Polestar will feature a fully electric drivetrain, delivering on our brand vision of being the new standalone electric performance brand”, said Chief Executive Officer of Polestar, Thomas Ingenlath.

With 600 hp and a whooping 1000 Nm of torque the taps, the Polestar 1 is a two-door, 2+2 seater Grand Tourer Coupe with an “Electric Performance Hybrid” drivetrain. Unlike any hybrid cars we know of today, where an electric motor supports the main engine, the Polestar 1 will be an electric car supported by an internal combustion engine.

Relying purely on electric power, it will have a range of 150 km – the longest electric range of any hybrid on the market. It’s based on Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) but with 50% of Polestar’s custom input – it shall not be called a Volvo.

The Polestar 1 comes fitted with the all-new, class-leading Öhlins Continuously Controlled Electronic Suspension (CESi). It will also come with a carbon fibre body which will increases structural stiffness by up to 45% as well as lowering the car’s centre of gravity.

Torque Vectoring will also be present, through a double electric rear axle layout, which will elevate the driving experience with precise acceleration on each wheel while providing maximum traction.

Polestar is ready to receive orders of the Polestar 1, which will be put together in the purpose-built, state-of-the-art Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China which is due for completion by the middle of next year.
