Polestar breaks away from Volvo, to develop high-performance EVs as new sub-brand

Volvo Cars has just announced that its high-performance arm, Polestar, will become a new separate brand to develop high-performance electric vehicles for the Swedish brand. The new cars will wear the Polestar logo and will ship globally.

As a subsidiary of Volvo Cars, Polestar will have access to existing technologies and engineering database of Volvo, resulting in significant economies of scale. And in return, Polestar will continue to offer Polestar Optimisation for Volvo vehicles. The new high-performance EVs will be designed and developed in-house from the ground up by Polestar. Further details about its products, industrialisation and commercial plans will be revealed in the coming months.

To support this drastic transformation, Volvo Cars has appointed Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo to assume the position of Chief Executive Officer at Polestar. Jonathan Goodman, Senior Vice President Corporate Communication at Volvo Cars will take over the role as Chief Operating Officer at Polestar.

Just recently, Polestar has just achieved a significant milestone of tuning 100,000 Volvo cars. Also, check out Polestar’s potential flagship, the C90 and let us know what you think!
