Gallery: Mazda EZ-6 at Beijing Motor Show 2024 – BEV & PHEV, RWD, China only

The long-serving Mazda 6 has just got itself a successor, in China at least, known as the Mazda EZ-6. Currently showcased at the Beijing Motor Show 2024, the EZ-6 is developed by Mazda with Changan Automobile and is made for China only, at least for now. Just in case you didn’t know, the Mazda 6 has been discontinued in Japan. And despite the brand saying that it is working on a rear-wheel drive (RWD) inline-6 version of the saloon’s successor, it is still unclear what the Mazda 6’s future will be like, at least outside of China.

Developed based on Changan’s Deepal SL03, the Mazda EZ-6 sports a grille-less front that resembles the ICE grille of a typical Mazda. It also comes with some typical EV traits such as the flush electric door handles and the set of aero wheels.

At the rear of the saloon is a retractable rear wing which is neatly integrated into the overall design of the car. The Mazda EZ-6 also sports a continuous taillight design, just like the Deepal SL03. In fact, its rear design sort of reminds us of the current generation Mazda 3 saloon.

Mazda hasn’t fully unveiled the specifications of the Mazda EZ-6. However, it is known that it will feature a single-motor RWD setup. The Mazda EZ-6 can be had with a fully electric (BEV) powertrain that can deliver up to 600 km of range, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain with over 1,000 km of range. Its power figures have yet to be announced just yet but Mazda promises its latest sedan will provide you with the expected “Jinba Ittai” experience, thanks to its tuned brakes and steering.

Moving inside the EZ-6, it looks pretty different from a typical Mazda. There is no rotary control unit for the head unit, and its head unit screen is probably the biggest one ever in a Mazda. In fact, the screen is just about as big as the ones found in a BYD.

The Mazda EZ-6 also comes with a fully digital instrument display, but not a knee cushion. Look up and you will find a huge glass roof on top that is not equipped with a sunshade.

At the moment, the Mazda EZ-6 will only be available in China as Mazda states it [the Mazda EZ-6] is a response to “a wide range of customer needs and preferences in China.” Do you think this is a worthy successor to Mazda’s flagship saloon? Share your thoughts with us!
