After announcing that Polestar will operate independently from its parent company Volvo, the performance arm of Volvo promised that they will continue to work on Volvo vehicles and as always, they’ve delivered. Introducing the model year 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar, the most dynamic 60-Series Volvo money can buy and is limited to 1,500 units combined.
The new S60 and V60 Polestar receives significant exterior modifications jointly developed by the engineers of Polestar and Cyan Racing, Polestar’s motorsport partner. Applying their experience at the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) programme and its record breaking run around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the engineers had managed to increase the car’s overall downforce by 30 percent.
This was achieved through the new carbon fibre extensions at the front splitter, side sills and rear spoiler. The additional downforce helps to increase the car’s grip and high-speed stability as well as greater control and steering feedback.
Other cosmetic changes include the gloss black Polestar diamond cut wheels, carbon fibre wing mirrors, new interior upholstery, blue contrast stitching and Polestar embroidery.
Underneath the skin, Polestar has changed more than 250 components as compared to the standard S60/V60 model and among the key components include adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers and six-piston Brembo brake calipers with larger 371 mm rotors.
Powertrain remains with Polestar’s tuned 2.0-liter four-cylinder Drive-E engine and eight-speed automatic pair that produces 362 hp and 470 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to all four wheels on both the S60 and V60 models. The sedan takes 4.7 seconds to hit the 100 km/h mark while the wagon twin is a fraction slower at 4.8 seconds. Top speed is governed at 250 km/h.
Locally, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has the S60 T6 on sale for RM239k as well as a Polestar optimisation package that takes peak output from 306 hp/400 Nm to 310 hp/430 Nm. Not quite the full Polestar experience but it’s something eh?
