Toyota GAZOO Racing Festival brings Toyota Vios Challenge to Malaysia

In an effort to invigorate the motorsports scene in Malaysia and elevate the sporty image of the Toyota Vios, UMW Toyota has just launched the Toyota Vios Challenge one make race and it will be the feature event at the upcoming Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Racing Festival.

Banking on Toyota’s rich heritage in the world of motorsports, in particularly with the World Rally Championship (WRC), the Toyota Vios Challenge in Malaysia is akin to the popular Toyota One Make Race available in Thailand and the Philippines. President of UMW Toyota, Mr. Ravindran Kurusamy explained that the Toyota Vios Challenge will be able to effectively demonstrate the dynamic capabilities of the Vios.

The race will see 30 drivers in identical race-prepped Toyota Vios competing against each other on street tracks designed by TRD Japan and AAM. All racing venues will be inscribed according to FIA regulations and safety standards. Therefore, there will be no compromise on safety.

To join the race, you would have to fork out RM90,000 for the race-prepped Vios, parts, engineering and testing, one set of FIA-approved racing suit, and six sessions of racing school training for novice drivers.

Specially prepared by Wing Hin Motorsports, a highly-respected Toyota dealer and one of the top racing outfits in Malaysia, the base car is a Vios 1.5 J MT that’s fitted with TRD specific parts including – TRD Aerodynamic kit, TRD exhaust system, TRD clutch system and LSD, TRD suspension system, TRD brake pads, TRD tower bar and lower brace bars, roll cage, Enkei rims and Toyo Tyres. UMW Toyota estimates an increased output of 10 percent over the stock 106 hp figures. That may not seem like much but that is because UMW did not want to alter the dynamics of the Vios too radically.

The TGR Racing Festival will happen in Penang, Johor, and twice in Kuala Lumpur. There will be a total of four Vios Challenge races and will be the feature event at the TGR Racing Festival. The race season is expected to happen between August 2017 to March 2018. Dates and locations will be announced in due course.
