Mercedes-AMG GLC63 is here to slay the Porsche Macan Turbo [+Video]

Mercedes-AMG’s lineup is as diverse as that poster from United Colours of Benetton. From the drift-happy E 63 and its estate counterpart to the beautiful AMG GT, now two GLC models have joined the fray. Both the SUV and coupe variants of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ are the latest recipients to receive Affalterbach’s magical touch.

Differentiating between the GLC 63 and the normal GLC is the Panamericana grille similar to the one found on the AMG GT R. It gets clothed with an aggressive bodykit, with a set of 19-inch wheels filling the arches of the “standard” GLC 63. Meanwhile the more potent GLC 63 S receives titanium grey 20-inch rims with a high-sheen finish.

Just like most Mercedes-AMG models, the GLC 63 uses a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8, but here the power is transferred to all four wheels, similar to the E 63. The V8 belts out 476 hp and 650 Nm of torque, while the S variant is even more powerful, generating 510 hp and 700 Nm. Those figures easily eclipse its rival from Stuttgart, the Porsche Macan Turbo.

Regardless of which variant you choose, the AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed automatic is the sole transmission option here. Getting from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.0 seconds for the GLC 63, but the GLC 63 S does it in 3.8 seconds, which is just as quick as the AMG GT S. Top speed for both models are still capped at 250 km/h.

With the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, the GLC 63 remains rear wheel bias for most of the time, but torque can be split to both the front and rear axle to ensure optimal traction on any road surfaces. The AMG Dynamic Select drive program is available here, with “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus”, and “Individual” that will alter the response of the engine, suspension, steering, and the all-wheel drive system.

As always, the Edition 1 is offered for both the SUV and coupe, where it receives the Night package exterior enhancements and AMG Performance Studio interior. There was no mention about the pricing, but in Europe, the order books for these cars will open in June. Presently in Malaysia, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia offers the GLC 250 4MATIC and the GLC 250 4MATIC Coupe at RM329K and RM424k respectively.
