Mercedes-AMG One breaks Nürburgring record again – 5 secs faster than before

Hold on tight — the Mercedes-AMG One, which previously held the fastest lap record for a production car at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, just demolished its own time at a record breaking 6:29.090 minutes, which is over five seconds faster than its previous best.

The Green Hell offered the perfect stage this time. Under a clear September sky, the AMG One unleashed its F1-derived powertrain to set a new lap record. This dominant performance stands in stark contrast to the previous record-setting run, which battled less-than-ideal conditions.

Behind the wheel was Mercedes-AMG brand ambassador and DTM driver Maro Engel, who also piloted the AMG One to its previous record of 6:35.183 minutes. This latest feat makes the Mercedes-AMG ONE the first road car to break the 6:30 barrier at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.

Powering the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is a 1.6-litre V6 engine that makes 574 hp and is assisted by four electric motors that together make 611 hp . Combined, the hybrid system makes an astronomical 1,063 hp.

“Two years ago, the conditions were not ideal, and some sections of the track were still a little damp. We knew we could do more, and we wanted to show that. Today we were able to demonstrate the maximum potential of the AMG ONE. Many thanks to the whole team from Affalterbach for the trust they’ve placed in me. It was a great pleasure and honour to be able to drive this record lap with such a unique car,” said Maro Engel, Mercedes‑AMG brand ambassador.
