It may have been previewed in Malaysia nearly three years ago, but the Toyota bZ4X is now actually, finally, launched here in Malaysia. Luckily, we’ll be getting it in the updated facelift guise, and will be available in a single variant, priced at RM220,000 on-the-road and without insurance.

In case you don’t remember, here’s a quick recap: the bZ4X is Toyota’s first global-market electric vehicle (EV) model, taking the form of a crossover. As the ‘4’ in the name suggests, it’s roughly the same size as the Toyota RAV4, measuring 4,690 mm long (2,850 mm wheelbase), 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall.
Compared to the pre-facelift model, styling changes here are rather mild. The main update is found on the front end, where it has now adopted the marque’s latest hammerhead front fascia, where it now adopts a split headlight design, with the main headlight beams now located within the front fender trims.
On that note, all of the chunky plastic trims of the pre-facelift model have now been cleaned up (read: made smaller), and now finished in gloss black for a significantly sleeker appearance. The front bumper now features a more angular shape, and when paired to the larger split roof “spoiler” trims at the back, does wonders in making the new 2026 Toyota bZ4X look more in line with the times.
A flat underbody panel also further helps with efficiency, bringing its drag coefficient down to 0.27 Cd.
Other exterior standard equipment on the Toyota bZ4X in Malaysia include:
- 20-inch alloy wheels with resin ornament
- Low rolling resistance tyres
- “High-tech” LED lighting
- Exterior colour options: Precious Metal, Attitude Black MC, Emotional Red, DK Blue MC, Platinum White Pearl MC
The more significant changes are found on the inside, where the entire dashboard has been redesigned with a more horizontal – and symmetrical – layout. Not only does it look significantly more modern, courtesy of the Lexus-esque 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display at the centre that incorporates rotary dials for the climate control system, the new interior also provides improved usability too, not least thanks to the new twin wireless charging pads on the centre console.
The binnacle for the instrument panel has now been removed, and the 7-inch display panel itself moved nearer to the windscreen to reduce the driver’s eye movement while driving. New graphics, too, and we can’t overstate how much that can change a car’s feel especially in this day and age.
Other interior amenities in the 2026 Toyota bZ4X include:
- 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display
- 7-inch digital instrument panel
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
- Enhanced voice-recognition function
- Regen-braking selector paddles
- 8-way power-adjustable front seats, with 2-way lumbar support on driver’s seat
- Seat ventilation
- Synthetic leather upholstery
- Automatic climate control with nanoeX air purifier
- Panoramic glass roof
- Double-glazed soundproofing glass windows
- 64-colour ambient lighting system
- 360-degree surround view monitor
But perhaps the biggest update comes in terms of its powertrain. Here in Malaysia, the new 2026 Toyota bZ4X will be offered in a single variant, powered by a single motor on the front axle. Not only has power increased compared to the model that was previewed here three years ago, the new facelift model also boasts improved range, courtesy of a slightly larger battery more efficient motors utilising silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors.
The suspensions have also been updated here, along with adjustments to the bodywork to not only reduce NVH levels, but also improved comfort and driving dynamics.

Toyota promises a long service life for its batteries, targetting a 90% capacity retention after 10 years/250,000 km of use, supported by a water cooling system for the pack, as well as voltage and temperature monitoring systems at the cell level to ensure consistent performance in the long run.
The battery is also designed to withstand collisions “from any angle” thanks to its frame and cross-bracing design. In the same vein, the Toyota bZ4X is also equipped with eight SRS airbags as standard, alongside the Toyota Safety Sense advanced driver assistance system, which utilises 12 sensors and radar to enable the following features:
