It turns out the rumours were right – the Audi A2 will be returning as an e-tron EV in fall 2026. And it looks like it won’t be just another crossover reusing a familiar name, too, because if the official teaser photo is anything to go by, the model’s signature quirky shape is set to make a comeback on the all-new model.
Audi says the all-new A2 e-tron will be an all-electric “entry-level model” in the compact class. It’s set to be built at its home in Ingolstadt, Germany, but the German marque says the A2 e-tron will “[target] a broad international customer base”, hinting at a wider introduction than just Europe.
As we’ve reported previously, the Audi A2 e-tron is set to indirectly replace both the A1 and Q2 models in the marque’s lineup. Designed as a “deliberate nod” to the A2 from 25 years ago, the new compact EV will sport a bulbous roofline and a raised floor, which should translate to ample headroom inside – although perhaps not “crossover” enough to warrant a Q prefix.
Technical details are not available just yet, although early reports suggest that the all-new A2 e-tron will be based on Volkswagen Group’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, which currently underpins the Volkswagen ID.3.

For reference, the Volkswagen ID.3 is currently powered by a 400V electrical system, with batteries ranging from 45 kWh to 77 kWh, offering ranges of up to 546 km on the WLTP test cycle. The batteries power a 204 hp and 310 Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels.
Aside from the A2 e-tron, Audi has also hinted at the debut of a “full-size” Audi Q9 in 2026, which will sit at the “top end” of its product lineup. The company says that its product portfolio is currently the “youngest” among the competition, thanks to 20 new models launched in the last two years. The Q9 is also rumoured to act as the basis of a Porsche ‘K1’ flagship SUV.
