Ahead of its local launch here, GWM Malaysia today announced that the first units of the locally assembled (CKD) GWM Wey G9 has now been exported to Thailand. This development comes shortly after its first CKD units rolled off the production lines at the EP Manufacturing (EPMB) assembly plant in Melaka.
“Today’s CKD shipment of the GWM Wey G9 to Thailand is a testament to the strong regional foundation we are building in ASEAN. Malaysia’s role as a strategic assembly hub allows us to support neighbouring markets with advanced New Energy products while deepening regional supply chain integration. This shipment marks an important step forward as we accelerate our presence across the region,” commented GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer, Roslan Abdullah.
GWM Malaysia Managing Director, Cui Anqi, added, “The GWM Wey G9 represents the convergence of world-class engineering and local craftsmanship. This shipment to Thailand demonstrates our growing capability to support GWM’s regional expansion. It is more than a logistical milestone — it marks the beginning of a long-term roadmap reinforcing Malaysia’s position in GWM’s New Energy future.”

Previewed in Malaysia late last year, the Wey G9 will be offered locally as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), equipped with the marque’s Hi4 hybrid all-wheel drive system that combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a dual electric motor setup. Altogether, the powertrain delivers 442 hp and 642 Nm to all four wheels, which enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h.
Equipped with a 44.2 kWh battery, the Wey G9 offers a range of up to 1,000 km (NEDC) on a single tank of fuel and a full battery, of which up to 170 km (NEDC) can be done on electric power alone. The system supports both 6.6 kW AC charging and DC fast charging, with the battery capable of a 30-80% recharge in just 26 minutes for the latter.
Now open for booking, the GWM Wey G9 PHEV is expected to launch in Malaysia starting from under RM300,000. Following its export milestone, GWM Malaysia is continuing preparations for the official launch of the Wey G9 in the country, which is expected to happen very soon. When that happens, stay tuned with us for the latest updates on the upcoming luxury MPV.
