Chery Malaysia begins exports of Jaecoo J7 to Brunei

Chery Corporate Malaysia has recently commenced vehicle exports operations to Brunei, its second ASEAN export market after Vietnam last February

The initial shipment to Brunei consists of the Jaecoo J7 in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and two-wheel drive (2WD) internal combustion engine (ICE) forms. All exported units are manufactured at Chery’s Shah Alam plant, and share identical specifications with the models sold in Malaysia.

Speaking during the officiation of the first export shipping ceremony, Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice-President, Men Lin Bo, commented, “The export market is a key pillar for our long-term growth strategy in the ASEAN region. We are thrilled to continue this growth momentum of expanding our brand reach to more markets.”

Chery Corporate Malaysia Vice President, Cheng Nam Weng, added, “Following the start of exports to Vietnam in February 2025, Brunei’s proximity and market potential make it a logical and important next step. This initial shipment of the Jaecoo J7 allows us to gauge market reception and lay a solid foundation in Brunei.”

Nam Weng further explained that the Brunei export programme will serve as a way for the brand to test the waters, allowing Chery to gauge market response while establishing its operational footprint ahead of broader expansion plans.

Following their entry into Brunei, Chery Corporate Malaysia is now looking to further expand its regional influence into other ASEAN markets, including exports to Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore as well.

Closer to home, sister brand Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia is gearing up for the launch of the Jaecoo J5, a smaller and more affordable sibling to the J7. Locally, the J5 will be offered exclusively with an ICE powertrain, featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 147 hp and 210 Nm, paired to a CVT and driving the front wheels.

Having made its official debut in a preview last year, the Jaecoo J5 is now open for booking, with an estimated price tag of RM120,000.
