The BYD Atto 2 will be getting a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant soon, the Chinese carmaker has confirmed. Powered by what BYD calls “Super Hybrid with DM technology”, the new BYD Atto 2 DM-i will arrive in Europe in the first quarter of 2026.
Details for the PHEV Atto 2 remain scarce, but BYD says that it’ll be offered in two variants, with different battery sizes offering different driving range, power outputs, and performance. In its most potent configuration, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i will be able to travel up to 90 km on electric power alone, and “more than 1,000 km” with dinosaur juice in the mix.
BYD says the DM-i system, which stands for Dual Mode-intelligent, will automatically choose the most appropriate hybrid modes on longer journeys to eke out more range. Expect to see the fifth-generation DM-i powertrain to be fitted here, consisting of a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-four mill and an electric motor on the front axle.
The PHEV variant will also feature several design tweaks to set it apart from the EV Atto 2, as shown from the single photo above, including a larger front grille, a different bumper design, and different badging. A new colour, called Midnight Blue, will also be exclusive to the DM-i variant, BYD says.

The BYD Atto 2 DM-i will make its global debut at the Fleet Europe Days event in Luxembourg this week, with a European media preview set to take place in November. Order books will open soon after, with first deliveries expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Here in Malaysia, the BYD Atto 2 is currently available as an EV, with one single variant on offer priced at RM100,000, on-the-road, without insurance. It’s powered by a front-mounted electric motor that produces 177 hp (130 kW) and 290 Nm of torque, translating to a centry sprint in 7.9 seconds. Equipped with a 51.13 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack, the Atto 2 has a range of 410 km (NEDC).
Could the BYD Atto 2 DM-i make its way onto our shores too? There’s certainly a possibility, given that BYD Cars Malaysia has previously already confirmed that hybrid models are coming – but as always, only time will tell.
