BYD Sime Motors has launched the fully-electric (EV) BYD Atto 2 in Malaysia, as the global debut of the right-hand drive model. Available in one variant, the BYD Atto 2 is priced at RM100,000, on-the-road, without insurance.
Measuring 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, the Atto 2 is a larger car than the BYD Dolphin, positioning it between the Dolphin and the Atto 3 in BYD Malaysia’s line-up.
While its overall shape looks like a scaled-down BYD Atto 3, the Atto 2 differentiates itself from its stablemates with a uniquely sculpted front bumper and side skirts that feature body-coloured elements for a more rugged appearance. At the rear, the Atto 2 features the infinity ring taillight signature that is reminiscent of those on the Dolphin.
Standard exterior equipment for the BYD Atto 2 include:
- Automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs) and Follow-me home functionality
- Full-width LED taillights
- One-touch open manual tailgate
- Automatic windshield wipers
- Heated power-folding side mirrors
- 17-inch alloy wheels
Unlike the quirky themed interiors of the Dolphin and Atto 3, the cabin of the BYD Atto 2 is more conventional, albeit with a futuristic touch, accented by blue ambient lighting on door grab handles. The dashboard features the Chinese carmaker’s signature rotataing 12.8-inch infotainment display, now with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The Malaysia-bound Atto 2 is actually unique to other markets, as it comes equipped with a steering column-mounted gear shift lever, instead of the conventional unit found on the centre console in other markets. Bootspace on the BYD Atto 2 is rated at 400 litres, which can be expanded to 1,320 litres with the rear seats folded.

Powering the BYD Atto 2 is a front-mounted electric motor that produces 177 hp (130 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. This enables a 0-100 km/h time in 7.9 seconds. Equipped with a 51.13 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack, the Atto 2 has a range of 410 km (NEDC).
Charging is supported with 7 kW AC and DC at 82 kW, the latter enabling a 30-80% recharge in 30 minutes. Also supported by the Atto 2 is vehicle-to-load (V2L) at 3.3 kW to power external devices using the SUV’s battery pack.
For safety systems, the BYD Atto 2 is equipped with six airbags as standard and a comprehensive suite of ADAS features, which includes:
- 360-degree surround view camera with transparent chassis functionality
- Adaptive cruise control with intelligent cruise control
- Intelligent speed limit control
- Lane departure assist
- Emergency lane keeping assist
- Blind sport detection
- Door opening warning
- Driver monitoring system
- Traffic sign recognition

Three exterior colours are available for the BYD Atto 2 in Malaysia. They are Ski White, Breeze Green, and Harbour Grey. The BYD Atto 2 is priced at RM100,000. Included in the price is a six-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000 km battery warranty guaranteeing state of health above 70%, as well as an eight-year/150,000 km warranty for the electric drive unit.
