2025 Mercedes-Benz S580e updated in Malaysia with rear-wheel steer, 20-inch wheels, DC charging – RM739k

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has introduced a series of updates for 2025 to its flagship sedan, the new Mercedes-Benz S580e with EQ Hybrid Technology, now priced at RM738,888 on-the-road, without insurance, which is an increase of RM20,000 over the outgoing model. As before, the luxury sedan is locally assembled (CKD) at the Mercedes-Benz production plant in Pekan, Pahang.

While most of the exterior styling of the luxury sedan remains unchanged, the new 2025 update distinguishes itself with a set of new 20-inch 10-twin-spoke forged wheels, alongside new EQ badges on the front fender. Otherwise, you’ll still find the large front grille flanked by Digital Light LED headlights, complemented by LED tailights at the rear.

A key new addition for this updated model is rear-axle steering. The system can turn the rear wheels up to 4.5 degrees, in the opposite direction at low speeds to improve the massive sedan’s turning radius, and in the same direction as the front at higher speeds to increase stability.

Omitted at its debut in Malaysia, the new 2025 Mercedes-Benz S580e also now gets DC fast charging support at up to 60 kW, capable of topping up the 28.6 kWh lithium-ion battery from 10-80% in 20 minutes. At home, AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW.

Otherwise, mechanicals here are the same as before. Powering the Mercedes-Benz S580e is a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine paired to an electric motor for a combined output of 510 hp and 750 Nm. All of the power is routed to the rear-wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox, which enables 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

As before, the updated Mercedes-Benz S580e retains its standard Airmatic air suspension with adaptive dampers. Pure EV range is also unchanged at 100 km (WLTP).

The 2025 update also introduces new creature comforts, with the addition of three-stage ventilated and heated front seats, as well as the Energising Air Control system. This is an air purifier system which continuously monitors the cabin’s air quality, detecting pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and PM2.5 particles.

The rest of the interior trimmings on the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S580e remain identical to the outgoing model. The dashboard is furnished with a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented central display and a driver’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Other interior features include Nappa leather upholstery and Anthracite open-pore poplar wood trim, while rear passengers can enjoy a comprehensive entertainment package featuring twin 11-inch displays, two wireless headsets, and a 7.0-inch Android control tablet.

The new 2025 CKD Mercedes-Benz S580e is priced at RM738,888, on-the-road, without insurance, inclusive of an eight-year or 160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, alongside a standard four-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty.
