Toyota bZ4X, Urban Cruiser EVs to be locally assembled in Indonesia

The Toyota bZ4X and Urban Cruiser electric vehicles (EVs) will be locally assembled in Indonesia, confirms PT Toyota-Astra Motor President-Director Hiroyuki Ueda at the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIAAS).

According to a report by Otodriver, the two EVs will also be joined by the Toyota Crown Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV, as part of the company’s strategy and commitment to the development of the Archipelago’s automotive industry.

Toyota-Astra Motor currently operates five plants in Indonesia, including engine assembly, body stamping, and vehicle production facilities. The company has exported more than three-million vehicles to-date, making it one of the main players in the nation’s automotive exports.

The local production of the Toyota bZ4X and Urban Cruiser in Indonesia could hint at a launch of the two electric crossovers in Malaysia in the future.

Locally, UMW Toyota has previously registered sample units of the Toyota bZ4X for the purpose of technical evaluation on local road conditions and market research. While the car was shown to the media and public, it was never made available for purchase to this date.
