Hyundai Ioniq 6 gets spicy with N performance variant – official debut next month!

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 has now been on the market for some time, and with the Ioniq 5 already receiving the full “N” performance treatment, it was only a matter of time before the Ioniq 6 followed suit. Now, as Hyundai first teased during the unveiling of the model’s recent facelift, it seems the Ioniq 6 is now finally worthy of the “N” badge.

Not much is revealed in the latest teaser images shared by Hyundai, with only the car’s rough silhouette visible, but one image clearly shows a new rear wing, and the spinning rear wheel hints at the possibility of a drift mode—just like the one found in the Ioniq 5 N.

Additionally, Hyundai says the car will also feature flared fenders, a wider stance, and lightweight wheels to match for enhanced handling. The Korean carmaker assures that it will embody N’s three core performance pillars – ‘Corner Rascal’, ’Racetrack Capability’ and ‘Everyday Sports Car’.

No performance data of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N have been released yet, but we expect it to share the same powertrain as the highly touted Ioniq 5 N. If that’s the case, the Ioniq 6 N will boast 609 hp and 740 Nm (650 hp and 770 Nm with N Grin Boost for 10 seconds) from a dual-motor system powering all-four wheels.

For a taste of what the 6N will be capable of, its SUV/hatch sibling rockets from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 260 km/h.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N saw great success with many considering it the saving grace of performance EVs. Since its debut, it has changed the minds of many petrol-heads and won the hearts of motoring enthusiasts all over the world—showing that an EV can too be a thrill to drive. It’s even got a special DK Edition made in collaboration with the one and only Drift King Keichi Tsuchiya!

With the lower and arguably cooler-looking Ioniq 6 now getting the “N” treatment, maybe people will stop calling the fastback model the poor man’s Porsche Taycan—and start seeing it as a true competitor to the German performance EV.

N Management Group Head and Vice President, Joon Park, said, “Ioniq 6 N will once again disrupt the high-performance EV segment to deliver exciting driving experiences to our fans.” He also added that the brand wishes to debut the Ioniq 6 N at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place next month, to “be as close to our fans as possible”.
