Gallery: MINI Cooper John Cooper Works now in Malaysia – petrol or EV? Your choice from RM225k!

MINI Malaysia has recently launched the all-new 2025 MINI 3-Door John Cooper Works (JCW) in Malaysia in both petrol and full-electric (EV) guises. The hot hatches – now on display at MINI’s booth at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 – start at RM225,188 for the EV variant and RM330,988 for the petrol variant. Prices are on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of the extended warranty and service package.

On the outside, the MINI JCW abandons the cute and rounded aesthetic of the standard MINI Cooper for a more aggressive styling, replete with red accents, characterised by an aggressively sculpted front bumper.

Further emphasising its hot hatch credentials are a roof-mounted spoiler and a large air diffuser integrated into the rear bumper, complete with a centrally mounted exhaust pipe – for the ICE version only, of course.

The emission-free variant of the MINI Cooper 3-Door JCW is visually almost identical to its petrol-powered counterpart, with a few key differences. To identify the EV version, look for the different front grille and bumper design, the rear spoiler adorned with the JCW mark on its endplates, and the redesigned rear bumper, likely shaped to accommodate the absence of an exhaust pipe.

Regardless of the petrol or EV variant, the interior of both hot hatches are identical to each other. Both cars are equipped with the signature MINI OLED round display infotainment system which serves as the driver’s digital gauge cluster and the infotainment system.

Other interior features of the MINI Cooper 3-Door JCW include dual-zone climate control, a driver’s heads-up display (HUD), a wireless phone charger, and the MINI experience mode, which delivers a spirited “woo-hoo!” when engaged in go-kart mode.

Powering the ICE MINI Cooper 3-Door JCW is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that sends 231 hp and 380 Nm to the front wheels (FWD) via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This enables the petrol variant to do 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 250 km/h.

For the EV variant, it has a front-mounted electric motor that delivers 258 hp (190 kW) and 350 Nm. For comparison’s sake, the EV variant powertrain is 27 hp more powerful, but delivers 30 Nm less torque than the petrol variant.

This enables the all-electric MINI Cooper 3-Door JCW to sprint to 100 km/h from a standstill slightly quicker at 5.9 seconds, though its top speed is lower at 200 km/h. Equipped with a battery pack boasting a gross capacity of 54.2 kWh (49.2 kWh usable), the EV MINI 3-Door JCW offers a WLTP range of 363 km to 371 km.

Charging is supported with AC charging at 11 kW and DC charging at 95 kW. The latter enables a 10% to 80% recharge in 30 minutes.

With the all-electric MINI Cooper 3-Door JCW priced at RM225,188 and the petrol variant at RM330,988 here in Malaysia, the choice is yours: will you opt for the classic, combustion-powered hot hatch or the modern, near-silent electric version?
