Kineta, a subsidiary of Sime, has partnered with Charge+ by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, establishing a strategic partnership aimed at expanding Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network.
Founded in Singapore in 2018, Charge+ has rapidly grown into a leading EV charging operator in Southeast Asia, with a network exceeding 3,000 charging points across six countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
The company aims to deploy 30,000 charging points throughout the region by 2030, a goal that will be supported by Kineta providing the necessary infrastructure for Charge+’s expansion initiatives within Malaysia.
By combining their respective strengths, Kineta and Charge+ will also collaborate on bids for significant EV charging infrastructure projects both within Malaysia and across the wider Southeast Asian region. Furthermore, users will gain seamless access to both charging networks through their respective platforms.
Chief Executive Officer of Charge+, Goh Chee Kiong said, “As a leading EV charging operator in Southeast Asia with a key focus on Malaysia, we are excited to combine strengths with Kineta, a major EV charging solution provider to accelerate the growth of EV charging accessibility.”

“Through this strategic alliance, Charge+ and Kineta are committed to providing a reliable and seamless charging experience and eliminating range anxiety for EV drivers in Malaysia and beyond. This partnership will also enable Charge+’s mission to build a 5,000km DC charging highway across Southeast Asia,” he added.
This partnership arrives at a crucial time for Malaysia’s EV infrastructure development. The Malaysian government has set an ambitious target for EV charger deployment, with Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, stating last year that the nation is on track to achieve 10,000 EV chargers by the end of 2025.

While the minister did not provide a detailed breakdown of the nationwide distribution, guidelines published by the MITI Malaysia EV task force in 2023 indicate that 4,000 of these chargers are planned for Selangor, 900 for Kuala Lumpur, 1,100 for Johor, and 600 for Penang. An additional 750 chargers are planned for East Malaysia, split between 400 in Sarawak and 350 in Sabah.
According to PLAN Malaysia’s MEVNet dashboard, the government’s public portal for EV charger availability, there are currently 3,611 public charging bays (from 1,200 locations) in operation nationwide as of today. Among these, 2,516 are AC chargers, with 1,095 DC fast chargers across 4,299 planned locations.
