2025 Facelift Toyota GR Yaris with 8-speed automatic in Malaysia, RM326k

UMW Toyota Motor has launched the new 2025 facelift Toyota GR Yaris equipped with the new eight-speed automatic gearbox in Malaysia. Prices for the automatic GR Yaris start at RM325,600 on-the-road, without insurance. For context, this is RM10,000 more expensive than the manual variant, which was launched locally in January 2025.

Dubbed the “8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (GAZOO Racing DAT)” by Toyota, this new gearbox has undergone extensive testing in diverse conditions on various road surfaces, with feedback from the company’s esteemed world rally team drivers contributing to its improvements.

Toyota also states that its “GAZOO Racing DAT” control software has been optimised for spirited driving, with the software monitoring the driver’s input on the accelerator and brakes. Based on these inputs, it anticipates the optimal gear shifts to allow an upshift akin to that of professional drivers, according to Toyota.

This gearbox is paired with the familiar 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, sending all power to all four wheels via the GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. The 0-100 km/h time remains at 5.2 seconds, the same as the manual variant, and the top speed is rated at 230 km/h.

A new drive mode select with four modes – Eco, Normal, Sports, and Custom – has also been introduced. These modes adjust the characteristics of the gearbox, with each offering a different shift feel, according to Toyota.

Exterior-wise, the automatic Toyota GR Yaris is almost identical to the manual variant, with the exception of a new transmission cooler in addition to the intercooler spray nozzle, which comes with the Cooling Package factory option.

The interior of the automatic variant also largely mirrors its manual sibling, the key difference being the presence of only two pedals and a new automatic gear selector in the centre console, and gearshift paddles on the steering column.

With the launch of the automatic variant of the facelift Toyota GR Yaris in Malaysia, the total number of variants of the GR Yaris locally now stands at two. Each GR Yaris purchased from GR Garage dealerships (which exclusively offer GR models) comes with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.
