The venerable Toyota Hilux could soon be replaced by an all-new next-generation model, with an expected launch in Thailand later in 2025 or in 2026.
According to a report by HeadlightMag, Toyota has filed a trademark application for “Hilux Travo” in the Kingdom. This name is believed to be the designation for the next-generation Hilux in Thailand, where each generation is sold with a new model name to differentiate it from its predecessors in the Thai market.
For context, the current Toyota Hilux is sold in Thailand as the Toyota Hilux Revo. HeadlightMag claims the upcoming Hilux Travo will sport completely new front and rear design.
Despite the new front and rear design, the next-gen Toyota Hilux is reportedly a heavy rework of the existing platform, similar to the recently launched ninth-generation Toyota Camry in Malaysia, and will not be underpinned by Toyota’s new global TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture.

The upcoming sixth-generation Toyota Hilux is expected to utilise a 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system with some improvements to make it Euro 5 and Euro 6 compliant. The powertrain produces a total output of 204 hp and 500 Nm. The electric motor itself makes 16 hp and 65 Nm.
In Malaysia, the Toyota Hilux received an update in August 2024 and is currently available in six variants priced from RM104,880 to RM173,280.
Powertrain options for the Malaysian Hilux include a 2.4-litre turbodiesel making 150 hp and 400 Nm and a 2.8-litre turbodiesel making 224 hp and 550 Nm. Both powertrains are rated at Euro 4 emission standard. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, depending on the variant.
If the sixth-generation Toyota Hilux were to debut in Malaysia with the 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain, it will be the first hybrid pickup truck to be sold in Malaysia. Will electrification solidify the Hilux’s position as a Malaysian favourite, or will consumers hesitate to embrace a hybrid pickup truck?
