Get ready Malaysia! The Zeekr 7X is making its way to our shores in 2025

At the launch of the Zeekr X and Zeekr 009 last week, Malaysia distributor Sentinel Automotive revealed that the premium electric sub-brand from Geely will be introducing another model to the Malaysia market in 2025: the Zeekr 7X.

Positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, the Zeekr 7X surpasses the Tesla in size, measuring 4,825 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall, with a 2,925 mm wheelbase.

The exterior embodies Zeekr’s “Hidden Energy” design philosophy, featuring clean lines and a futuristic aesthetic. An interactive LCD display graces the front, and a roof-mounted LIDAR sensor contributes to the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Inside, the driver is greeted by a 13.02-inch digital instrument cluster and a 16-inch touchscreen infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. Additional features include ventilated and massaging front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, and powered rear seats with extendable leg rests. These features are based on the China-spec car and may differ when the Zeekr 7X makes its Malaysian debut in 2025.

The Zeekr 7X is based on the PMA2+ platform, derived from Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA3), also found in the Zeekr 007 and Smart #5. It supports 800V architecture and will offer two battery options, 75 kWh and 100 kWh.

In its home market in China, the Zeekr 7X is available in three variants: 75 kWh RWD, 100 kWh RWD and 100 kWh AWD. The 75 kWh RWD is equipped with a single motor on the rear axle producing 421 hp and 440 Nm, translating to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.8 seconds and a CLTC-rated range of 605 km. The battery is capable of 10-80% DC charging in 15 minutes.

The 100kWh RWD variant features the same electric motor but benefits from a larger battery pack, resulting in an extended range of up to 780 km (CLTC). Additionally, this variant achieves 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, marginally faster than the 75 kWh RWD variant.

The 100 kWh AWD variant, meanwhile, is equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack sourced from CATL that provides a range of 705 km (CLTC). A dual-electric motor setup delivers 646 hp and 710 Nm for a 0-100 km/h spritn time of 3.8 seconds. With DC charging, charging from 10-80% takes just 10.5 minutes.

Safety systems of the Zeekr 7X is provided by the “Haohan Intelligent Driving 2.0” ADAS system, powered by dual Nvidia Orin X chips (508 TOPS), which also supports a degree of self-driving capability.

With its array of exterior and interior features, the Zeekr 7X appears poised to challenge the Tesla Model Y and even the BYD Sealion 7 when it arrives in Malaysia in 2025. The question remains: how much will it cost?
