The all-new ninth-generation Toyota Camry (XV80) has finally made its official debut here in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 (KLIMS 2024), more than a year after the model was first unveiled globally.
Like our neighbours in Thailand and Singapore, the 2024 Toyota Camry will be offered solely with a hybrid powertrain here in Malaysia, with only one variant on offer priced at RM248,800 on-the-road, and without insurance. The Camry is fully imported (CBU) from Thailand.
The “fifth-generation” Toyota Hybrid System here consists of a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine (188 hp, 221 Nm) paired to an e-CVT gearbox with an electric motor (136 hp [100 kW], 208 Nm), making a combined output of 230 hp with all of it sent to the front wheels.
Toyota did not reveal any information on the Camry’s performance figures, nor the battery size, but noted that the fifth-gen hybrid system now uses a lithium-ion battery pack instead of the older nickel metal hydride technology. As it is not a plug-in hybrid, there is no need to charge the vehicle; the battery automatically recharges via regenerative braking, or via the engine.
The THS system is a mix between series and parallel hybrid modes, as the 2024 Toyota Camry is able to be powered by its motor, engine, or a mixture of both. These are controlled by the various drive modes, including an EV mode that lets drivers travel short distances without turning over the engine.
Aside from the new powertrain, the all-new 2024 Toyota Camry has also been given a significant redesign, most notably in front with the new “hammerhead” front fascia featuring the twin C-shaped daytime-running lights, previously seen on the Prius and Crown Sport.
Size wise, the ninth-generation Camry measures 4,920 mm long, 1,840 mm wide, and 1,455 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,825 mm. That makes it 35 mm longer overall as compared to the outgoing model, although all other dimensions remain unchanged.
Standard equipment on the 2024 Toyota Camry in Malaysia include:
- LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights

- front and rear LED fog lamps
- 18-inch alloy wheels with Bridgestone Turanza tyres (235/45R)
Inside, the all-new ninth-generation Toyota Camry has also received a major overhaul, with a much simpler dashboard layout characterised by horizontal lines, somewhat disguising the side air vents.
On the inside, the all-new 2024 Toyota Camry in Malaysia comes as standard with:

- Front and rear digital video recorder (dashcam)

- Toyota vehicle telematics system
Like the outgoing model, the rear seats in the 2024 Toyota Camry also gets a control panel for the full tauke experience. Located within the rear centre armrest, the panel allows passengers to adjust the climate and audio settings, as well as the rear sunshade and even powered seat recline!
The 2024 Toyota Camry in Malaysia comes equipped as standard with a set of advanced driver assistance features, including:
- Autonomous emergency braking with parking support
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane Tracing Assist
- lane departure alert
- automatic high beam
- traffic sign recognition
A blind spot monitor is also standard on the 2024 Toyota Camry, alongside the 360-degree surround view monitor and eight airbags.
The 2024 Toyota Camry 2.5 HEV is priced at RM248,800 on-the-road, without insurance. Included inthe price is a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, as well as an eight-year/unlimited mileage hybrid electric warranty covering the hybrid battery, inverter, and power management control unit, extendable up to 10 years.
Six exterior colour options are available: Cement Grey, Dark Blue Mica (+RM800), Precious Metal (+RM800), Emotional Red (+RM800), Platnium White Pearl, and Attitude Black. They are all paired to the same black coloured interior.
