Hyundai Motor Malaysia signs LOI with EON Berhad to expand retail footprint across Malaysia

Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Edaran Otomobil Nasional Berhad (EON) for the purpose of expanding the former’s retail footprint across Malaysia.

The LOI will see Hyundai and EON jointly develop two new Hyundai dealerships in the Klang Valley and Penang, with both new locations slated to open in the first half of 2026.

Hyundai Motor Malaysia Managing Director, Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, said, “This collaboration is not just about growth, but it’s about building trust and delivering value to Malaysians for the long term. We are grateful to EON for joining us on this journey, as their established reputation and nationwide presence make them an invaluable partner.

“By working together, we are combining global innovation with local expertise to bring customers greater accessibility, service excellence, and a retail network that can grow sustainably,” she added.

According to Hyundai, these new outlets will support the company’s entry into new customer segments by bringing sales, service, and aftersales capabilities closer to key population centres.

This is the first part of HMY’s expansion in Malaysia as the company aims to grow its dealership ecosystem in the country over the next several years.

EON Berhad Chief Executive Officer, Akkbar Danial, said, “This collaboration reflects EON’s continuous pursuit for new opportunities to shape Malaysia’s mobility future. And in line with our guiding principle ‘Passion Drives Possibilities’, we look forward to having Hyundai as one of our brands to enable us to deliver even greater value to our customers.”

The national sales company for the marque officially took over operations in Malaysia in a principal-led model back in June this year. HMY currently sells three models: the facelifted Hyundai Tucson, the all-new fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe, and the updated Hyundai Staria.
