All-new 4th-gen Nissan X-Trail launched in Thailand — fashionably late, but ready to impress

First unveiled globally in 2020, the all-new fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail has now finally arrived in Thailand. Launched at the Thailand International Motor Expo, the Land of Smiles is only getting a single variant, the X-Trail e-Power e-4orce, in its seven-seater guise.

As the name suggests, the all-new Nissan X-Trail uses Nissan’s e-Power series-hybrid powertrain. It features a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 144 hp and 250 Nm of torque, which functions solely as a generator to charge its 1.8 kWh battery pack.

Power is then sent to two electric motors: a front-mounted unit with 204 hp and 330 Nm, and a rear motor producing 136 hp and 195 Nm, enabling all-wheel drive via Nissan’s e-4orce system.

On the outside, the all-new X-Trail in Thailand is fitted with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), projector headlights with a follow-me-home function and LED taillights at the rear. Notable standard kit includes rain-sensing wipers, a powered tailgate, roof rails and 19-inch blacked-out alloy wheels.

Inside, the all-new X-Trail in Thailand features dual 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and centre infotainment system, the latter supporting wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and NissanConnect. The front seats are 10-way adjustable with lumbar support, while the second-row seats offer 40:20:40 split-folding, and the third row features a 50:50 split.

Creature comforts include full leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a nine-speaker Bose premium sound system, ambient lighting and three-zone climate control, with separate controls for the front and rear.

The all-new X-Trail in Thailand is kitted with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including six airbags, a surround-view camera, and Nissan’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), all grouped under the Nissan 360 Safety Shield and featuring technologies such as Intelligent Forward Collision Warning (IFCW), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and more.

The Nissan X-Trail e-Power e-4orce is offered as a fully imported (CBU) model from Japan and is priced at THB1,699,000 (approx RM219k). This positions it close to other hybrid SUVs in Thailand, such as the Honda CR-V e:HEV, priced from THB1,399,000 to THB1,729,000 (approx RM181k to RM223k), and the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, which ranges from THB1,699,000 to THB1,849,000 (approx RM219k to RM238k).

With our neighbours now getting the all-new fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail, could it also make its way over to Malaysia too? The brand’s distributor here, Edaran Tan Chong Motors, has previously suggested that it’ll be introducing more e-Power models here on our shores, and given the popularity of the third-generation X-Trail here, the new model could be a strong seller if priced competitively.
