Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Nissan Elgrand is making a bold comeback at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, ahead of its official market launch in Japan next year. After more than a decade since the third generation’s debut in 2010, Nissan has finally renewed its luxury people carrier, aiming to take a slice of the Toyota Alphard pie — just like several other ambitious Chinese contenders.
Inspired by the Hyper Tourer concept, the exterior of the all-new model takes on a drastic change but still stays true to its Elgrand identity; showcasing Nissan’s latest design language seen on cars like the new Nissan Leaf, yet still retaining the signature silhouette. The front light signature is integrated directly into the grille, which is adorned by a design inspired by the Japanese Kumiko pattern.
This design continues on the rear full-width tail lights, illuminated in a pixel-like effect reminiscent of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but styled with the same Kumiko Pattern as the front. It’ll also debut with a new Fuji Dawn colour, shown in these photos, inspired by the deep red-purple sunset dawn over Mount Fuji.
Inside, the all-new Nissan Elgrand features a modern, layered interior design with elegant trims arranged to create a clean, flowing look. Taking centre stage is a pair of 14.3-inch integrated displays, a “segment-first” according to Nissan, serving as both the driver instrumentation and centre infotainment display.

Complementing the setup is a 22-speaker Bose sound system with speakers built into the front seat headrests, while the second-row captain seats feature zero-gravity functions for enhanced comfort. Adding to the luxury, the cabin features TailorFit leather upholstery with Kumiko-inspired patterns, woodgrain accents, and 64-colour ambient lighting.
In a preview video, the Nissan Elgrand is shown with a power-adjustable steering wheel featuring a column-mounted sensor, likely for a driver monitoring system. The centre console includes two wireless chargers and dual USB-C ports for added connectivity, along with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality — demonstrated by a laptop charging directly from the console. Rear passengers, meanwhile, are treated to two large entertainment screens.

The all-new Nissan Elgrand will feature the marque’s latest third-generation e-Power hybrid powertrain paired with the upgraded e-4ORCE dual-motor all-wheel-drive system — similar to what’s found in the latest Nissan X-Trail e-Power. As with all e-Power systems, this here will also be a series hybrid layout, with the wheels driven only by the electric motors.
While Nissan has yet to confirm full specifications, it’s expected to feature a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing 144 hp (106 kW) and 250 Nm, paired with a front electric motor delivering 204 hp (150 kW) and 330 Nm, plus a rear motor with 136 hp (100 kW) and 195 Nm. Power is supplied by a compact 1.8-kWh battery.
Nissan adds that the e-4ORCE system utilises rear-motor torque vectoring and the brand’s Intelligent Dynamic Suspension to enhance stability and cornering performance, particularly at higher speeds.

Nissan is also equipping the all-new Elgrand with its latest ProPilot technology, which for the first time supports hands-free driving at speeds below 50 km/h. The company also confirmed that ProPilot 2.0 will be introduced, enabling hands-free highway driving and lane change assist.
The “Alphard competitor” label has been used frequently in light of the recent wave of luxury Chinese MPVs offering more for less, such as the Denza D9, GWM Wey G9, Xpeng X9, and Zeekr 009. While these models are typically priced to undercut the Alphard, the Nissan Elgrand — if imported fully from Japan — is expected to command a premium price tag to match.
