MARii announces regional expansion for Malaysia Autoshow – Penang and Johor editions in 2026

The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) announced the soft launch of the upcoming Penang Autoshow 2026 and Johor Autoshow 2026, marking a strategic expansion of the biennial Malaysia Autoshow (MAS). The announcement was made during the Global Automotive & Technology Expo (GATE) 2025.

While the flagship show slot is reserved for the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) in 2025, as part of the two motor shows’ arrangement to host their respective expos on an alternate-year basis, MARii will be organising two shows in the Northern and Southern regions.

According to MARii, Penang and Johor were selected as the first locations for the expansion due to their strategic importance in the nation’s automotive landscape. Penang is recognised as a centre for advanced manufacturing and technology, rapidly becoming a hub for sustainable mobility and EV adoption.

Johor, meanwhile, serves as a major industrial and logistics gateway to ASEAN markets, offering significant opportunities for cross-border collaboration, industry growth, and automotive development.

Like the main Malaysia Autoshow, the regional events will feature automotive brands, technology providers, and mobility solutions, making them directly accessible to respective local communities without the need to travel to Kuala Lumpur.

The regional editions will also feature visitor activities, including dedicated test drive routes, car gatherings, and auto fashion shows. Further activities and experiential showcases will be announced soon as planning progresses.

MARii Chief Executive Officer, Azrul Reza Aziz said, “While in 2026, the Malaysia Autoshow will take a step back to give way to the Malaysian Automotive Association as they host the prestigious Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS 2026). However, our mission remains unchanged. The drive to bring the latest automotive innovations closer to Malaysians will not stop at one venue or one city.”

“At the same time, the Penang Autoshow and Johor Autoshow 2026 are an extension of the mission to ensure that people in every region have access to new generation vehicle technology, electric mobility and sustainable innovation. With this approach, we are not only expanding our reach, but also strengthening the development of the national automotive ecosystem in a more inclusive manner in line with the National Automotive Policy 2020,” he added.

For this year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), the show will be held from 12th to 21st June 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).

While tickets for KLIMS 2026 are not yet on sale, entry is complimentary on weekdays for adults, children aged 13 to 17 years old, and college or university students up to 25 years old who present a valid student ID.

On Fridays to Sundays and public holidays, ticket prices are RM25 for adults, RM10 for children between 13 and 17 years old and college or university students up to 25 years old with a valid student ID.
