Geely joins the luxury MPV race – Galaxy V900 to debut in China with range-extender powertrain

Geely has unveiled another luxury people carrier, this time a high-end MPV to be introduced under its Galaxy sub-brand, which will also kickstart the marque’s new V Series lineup. Dubbed the Geely Galaxy V900, the new luxury MPV will make its official debut on 21 November in Guangzhou.

The new Geely Galaxy V900 is expected to serve as the extended range electric vehicle (EREV) counterpart to the LEVC L380 EV — a luxury MPV launched earlier this year under the Geely-owned brand that also makes the electrified London taxi.

Based on the teaser video posted on the Geely Galaxy Weibo page, the luxury MPV inherits much of its design from the L380, aside from a large, gaping front grille — presumably to cool its internal combustion engine (ICE).

Up front, it features a long light bar with a split headlight design, while a LiDAR sensor housing sits atop the roof, as seen on many higher-end Chinese vehicles. Along the sides, sleek chrome strips and blacked-out pillars give the MPV a smooth, classy profile. At the rear, the light bar is flanked by uniquely fanned-out taillight clusters.

Details from its recent Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings, as reported by CarNewsChina, show that it will be powered by a EREV powertrain comprising a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 163 hp. It is available with two battery options: a CALB-sourced 43.3 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery providing up to 172 km of EV-only range, and a CATL-sourced 50 kWh NMC battery providing up to 202 km of EV-only range.

The filing also reveals the car measures 5360 mm in length, 1998 mm in width, 1940 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm, similar to other luxury people carriers such as the Zeekr 009, Denza D9, and the GWM Wey G9. Unlike those models, the Geely Galaxy V900 can be configured with six or eight seats — the latter in a 2+2+2+2 configuration.

Being this massive and carrying a battery, the car boasts a whopping gross weight of 3,390 kg to 3,660 kg, depending on the configuration, with a top speed of 190 km/h. It also offers 18- or 20-inch wheels and can be optionally equipped with powered side steps.

The Geely Galaxy V900 is set to launch in China before the end of the year. Likely billed as the EREV counterpart to the LEVC L380 EV, the V900 could also be introduced in the UK — possibly under an LEVC badge to avoid confusion – as the electric version has also been tipped to make its debut there next year.
