At a media dialogue session during the launch of the new Mazda 3 1.5L High Plus and the facelifted Mazda BT-50, Bermaz Auto Executive Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ben Yeoh revealed that the third-generation Mazda CX-5 “could” be launched in Malaysia in Q3 2026 as a fully imported (CBU) model, sold alongside the current 2.0-litre variants of the CX-5.
This development ties in with earlier reports, which suggested that locally-assembly (CKD) operations for the all-new CX-5 and the CX-80 are planned for fiscal year (FY) 2027. These plans also include an unnamed Mazda B-segment SUV, also reportedly slated for CKD introduction in FY2028.
Unveiled globally in July 2025, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 features a more aggressive exterior, sporting Mazda’s “evolved Soul of Motion” design language. The SUV has grown significantly in all dimensions too, measuring 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,695 mm tall, with a 2,815 mm wheelbase.
The next-generation Mazda CX-5 is currently available globally with a single powertrain: the e-Skyactiv G 2.5-litre straight-four engine. This unit integrates the Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid system, producing 141 hp and 238 Nm of torque in total.
According to Mazda, the next-generation CX-5 is also slated to receive the anticipated Skyactiv-Z engine, featuring the company’s proprietary hybrid powertrain, in 2027.
The third-generation model also features a significantly revamped interior. It is dominated by a new 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display, running Mazda’s all-new operating system and featuring full connectivity support. Crucially, the new larger touchscreen has also resulted in the removal of physical climate control buttons, which are present on the outgoing model.
Mazda has long prioritised driving engagement, especially via its “Jinba Ittai” philosophy, making the removal of physical controls a surprising move. However, the company says the decision was based on internal customer feedback showing a preference for a larger infotainment display.
Nevertheless, the list of new tech upgrades also extends to a new fully digital instrumentation screen, replacing its old semi-analogue gauge cluster, bringing the CX-5’s cabin in line with its modern rivals.

On the safety side, the third-generation Mazda CX-5 is equipped with an evolved suite of ADAS features. Based on specifications for the German market, these ADAS features include: Traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist with steering assist, park distance control, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, and parking assist with front and rear cross traffic alert.
It remains to be seen how much the third-generation Mazda CX-5 will cost when it is launched in Malaysia. However, it is reasonable to expect a price higher than the current Mazda CX-5, which is on sale here in Malaysia priced from RM134,469 to RM180,322.
