At the recent debut of the Suzuki Swift Sport Final Edition, Naza Eastern Motors, the distributor of the Japanese brand here in Malaysia, has also confirmed that the Suzuki Fronx SUV is set to launch in Malaysia in the fourth quarter of this year.
Teased recently for our market, the Suzuki Fronx is a compact crossover measuring 3,995 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, with a 2,520 mm wheelbase. This places it at the B-Segment size of SUVs and competes with cars such as the Perodua Ativa and the Honda WR-V.
Making its debut in the region recently at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), the Suzuki Fronx — also rebadged as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Tiasor in India — features a sporty look thanks to its thin LED daytime running lights (DRLs) from its split-headlight design.
At the back, the car sports a full-width taillight design, and a rugged bumper design adds an adventurous look. Complementing that look are the 16-inch wheels that come standard with the car in Indonesia.
Inside, the car is equipped with a nine-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other notable features include a heads-up display (HUD), a wireless charger, auto air-conditioning, and a set of rear air-conditioning blowers.

In Indonesia, two powertrain options are available — a 1.5-litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid option and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) option.
The 1.5-litre NA engine delivers 105 hp and 138 Nm, driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic in Indonesia. The 1.5-litre mild-hybrid, paired with a 12-volt lithium-ion battery and integrated starter generator, produces 101 hp and 135 Nm, and is offered with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic.

Safety-wise, the car comes standard with six airbags, while higher-end variants are treated to the marque’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) package. This includes features such as Auto Emergency Braking (AEB), Automatic Cruise Control (ACC), lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and rear cross traffic alert. Higher trims also feature a 360-degree camera and High Beam Assist for added convenience and visibility.
In Indonesia, where the car is available as a locally assembled (CKD) model, it is priced from IDR259 million to IDR322 million (approx. RM67k to RM83k). The carmaker is planning to explort the Fronx from its Indonesian plant to neighbouring countries in the ASEAN region, and that should be the source of our Malaysian car too when it launches here. With rivals priced between RM80,000 and RM100,000, the Suzuki Fronx will likely need to follow suit to stay competitive in the fierce B-segment SUV market.
