Video: The BYD Atto 2 is RM100K on paper – but it could be even cheaper

The fully-electric (EV) BYD Atto 2 has launched in Malaysia, priced at RM100,000, marking the global debut of the right-hand drive variant of the compact B-segment crossover.

If you’re expecting a wildlife-themed interior, following in the footsteps of the BYD Dolphin and Atto 3 with their Ocean and Gym-inspired designs, the Atto 2 (fortunately?) has a more conventional cabin. It features the company’s signature rotatable 12.8-inch infotainment display and an in-car karaoke system—perhaps to alleviate the boredom of being stuck in traffic.

Powering the BYD Atto 2 is a front-mounted electric motor that delivers 177 hp (130 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. This enables the Atto 2 to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 160 km/h.

The motor is paired with a 51.13 kWh BYD Blade Battery pack, which provides a range of 410 km (NEDC). Charging is supported at 7 kW for AC and up to 82 kW for DC fast charging, which allows for a 30-80% recharge in approximately 30 minutes.

In conjunction with the launch, BYD Sime Darby Motors is offering the first 800 customers an exclusive ownership package worth up to RM13,500. This includes an RM0 instalment plan for the first six months with Sime Motors’ financing, a free wallbox charger or a “Sime Platinum 4+ package” by Power Up that includes four times free door-to-door charging per month.

With the first six months of instalment payments being free, this would effectively drop the price of the BYD Atto 2 well below the RM100,000 threshold, which is the minimum required for fully imported (CBU) EVs in Malaysia.
