Video: Mercedes-AMG SL63S E Performance in Malaysia – Hybrid roadster from RM2.2m!

Alongside the launch of the Mercedes-AMG GT63 4Matic+, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also unveiled the new hybrid flagship of their SL Roadster line-up, the SL63S E Performance, with a starting price of RM2,168,888

On top of the V8 roar that you get in the Mercedes-AMG SL63 4Matic+, the souped up S version of the performance roadster even brought along F1-inspired hybrid technology to give it even more power, plus the ability to drive on electricity alone, too, for the eco-conscious.

Despite being the more ‘eco-friendly’ option, the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine itself has indeed still been uprated to produce 615 hp and 850 Nm of torque. The engine is then paired with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle that produces 204 hp and 320 Nm.

Combined, the hybrid system produces a total of 816 hp and 1,420 Nm, sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission and a fully variable 4Matic+ system. As a result, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 317 km/h.

Powering the hybrid system is a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, which supports 3.7 kW of AC charging and offers an electric-only range of up to 13 km. The system can also recuperate up to 100 kW of energy at its highest regeneration setting, enabling one-pedal driving.

In addition to the hybrid system, the SL63 S E Performance is also equipped with an Active Roll Stabilisation system and AMG Active Ride Control suspension, enhancing both high-speed handling and ride comfort. Aerodynamics have also been optimised with active elements beneath the front splitter and a retractable rear spoiler.

Though similar in appearance to its other SL siblings, the Mercedes-AMG SL63S E Performance separates itself from the line-up with a new “E Performance” badging, red-highlighted SL63 S badge, and bronze brake callipers wrapping the carbon ceramic brakes. Being a plug-in hybrid, it’s also got a charging flap located at the rear of the car.

Inside, the layout is largely the same with an 11.9-inch central infotainment display paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. This new hybrid model gets exclusive AMG and hybrid specific displays and functions built into the MBUX system.

Customers can personalise their SL63S E Performance with a choice of three optional design packages: the AMG Night Package, AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre Package, and AMG Aerodynamics Package. For the interior, a selection of one- or two-tone Nappa leather colour combinations is available, paired with Microcut microfibre and highlighted by contrast stitching in either yellow or red.
