MG S5 EV at Malaysia Autoshow 2025 – Com and Lux variants confirmed, est. from RM115k

MG Motor Malaysia is showing off the all-electric MG S5 EV to the public at Malaysia Autoshow 2025. Following an earlier media preview of the EV crossover, we now have information that two variants, namely Com and Lux, will be available when the MG S5 EV launches in Malaysia with an estimated price from RM115,000.

Sharing similar dimensions with the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) and the BYD Atto 3, the MG S5 EV is poised to compete in the hotly contested C-segment EV SUV category upon its Malaysian launch.

Compared to the Proton and BYD, the MG S5 EV boasts a more sculpted and aggressive design, highlighted by its racing flag-inspired LED daytime running lights (DRLs).

Another distinctive design element of the MG S5 EV is its belt line, which gradually transforms into a sculpted feature at the tailgate, resembling a subtle ducktail spoiler above the full-width taillights.

Standard interior equipment across both variants for the MG S5 EV includes a 12.8-inch central touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a driver’s 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster.

Powering the MG S5 EV is a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 170 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm. This enables the SUV to do 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds

The Com variant offers a choice of battery packs: a 49 kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) unit providing a range of 340 km (WLTP), or a larger 62 kWh LFP pack extending the range to 430 km (WLTP). The Lux variant, on the other hand, comes exclusively with the 62 kWh LFP battery pack.

For charging specifications, both 49 kWh and 62 kWh battery packs support AC charging at 6.6 kW. For DC charging, the smaller 49 kWh battery pack supports 120 kW, which enables a 10-80% charge in 24 minutes. The larger 62 kWh battery pack supports faster DC charging at 150 kW, but its 10-80% charge time is slightly longer at 26 minutes.

In terms of safety features, the MG S5 EV is equipped with a suite of advanced driver assistance features (ADAS) that includes adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.
