BMW Group Malaysia teases EV, PHEV models for Malaysia Autoshow 2025

BMW Group Malaysia has teased several upcoming models that will be on display at its booth at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2025. While the company has not confirmed which cars will be unveiled, an accompanying teaser image with outlines of the models does give us a few pointers.

The press release also specifically highlighted the “full spectrum of drivetrain options” for the cars on display, from fully electric models (EVs) to plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), as well as its ongoing commitment to the Malaysian automotive landscape, including “local investment” in local assembly (CKD) works.

With these information at hand, we did our usual sleuthing to give you our best guesses at what’s to come at the show, starting May 9, 2025!

Starting with the sole BMW model in the teaser image, we are guessing it could be the return of the BMW 330e PHEV, which was axed from the recently updated lineup of 2025 BMW 3 series models. It should also likely be returning to our markets as a CKD unit, in line with the rest of the local 3 Series range.

Globally, the 330e PHEV received an update last year. It now comes with a larger 19.5 kWh battery (up from 12 kWh), boosting its WLTP-rated electric-only range to 85–101 km (previously 54–62 km). Charging speeds have also improved to now support 11 kW AC, although outputs from the 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid powertrain remains unchanged at 292 hp and 420 Nm combined.

Expect to see similar changes on the inside as those introduced with the latest BMW 3 Series update here in Malaysia, including a new geometrical centre air vent design with reduced physical buttons all around.

Flanking the obvious BMW silhouette are an array of MINI cars. With the recent announcement of JCW (John Cooper Works) models such as the JCW Aceman, and the electric and petrol MINI three-door JCW last week, expect to see these models make their first public appearance in Malaysia.

The JCW Aceman features a single front-mounted electric motor that produces 258 hp and 350 Nm. It sprints from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and commands an asking price of RM 241,288.

Sharing the same powertrain and 54.2 kWh (gross) battery pack is the fully-electric MINI three-door JCW, priced from RM225,188. Due to its smaller size, though, it speeds from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The three-door JCW on the other hand features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that pumps out 231 hp and 380 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.1 seconds. Its sticker price is RM 330,998

The teaser image also appears to feature the silhouette of a Countryman model, which we’re guessing would be the MINI Countryman S ALL4, making its first public appearance since it was launched earlier this year.
