Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has unveiled a new “Black Edition” variant for the Golf GTI, ahead of its public debut at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2025.
Like the standard Volkswagen Golf GTI it’s based on, the new Black Edition model will also be locally assembled here in Malaysia, priced at RM260,012 on-the-road without insurance, and inclusive of the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP) priced at RM15,000, which raises the warranty coverage up to five years, in addition of seven years of free maintenance, and five years of complimentary roadside assistance.
What’s more, there’s also a RM15k special introductory discount, bringing the price down to RM245,012 on-the-road.
VPCM says the Black Edition is designed for those who are seeking for a more understated look. To that end, it features several new “stealth-inspired” design elements on the outside, such as the 18-inch Richmond alloy wheels finished in black paired with self-centering GTI hub caps, GTI valve caps, blacked-out front lip, rear diffuser, side skirting, and side mirrors, as well as exclusive ‘BLACK’ badgings on the outside – and on the floor mats inside.
In line with the whole “understated” theme, the Black Edition is also only offered in two exterior colours: red, and of course, black.

Aside from aesthetic touches, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Edition also comes with several creature comfort additions, including JPJ-compliant Volkswagen Tint for heat protection, extra velcro cargo fasteners to help secure your goods to the floor, as well as a Universal Traffic Recorder 2.0 (UTR2.0) front-facing dashcam, equipped with a Sony “Starvis” sensor for “ultra-crisp 2x QHD videos” even in low-light conditions – not bad for just a RM6,000 premium, given that otherwise you’d be installing these yourself anyway!
Additionally, all buyers will also receive an exclusive Black Edition owners’ box, consisting of a Volkswagen keyholder, and a Certificate of Authenticity to confirm its exclusivity. The model does not appear to be a limited-run series, however.
ALSO WATCH: Why the Volkswagen Arteon is still a worthy option in 2025!
No changes are made to the Golf GTI’s powertrain, which means the Black Edition will still be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine that outputs 245 hp and 370 Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission to send drive to the front wheels. You’d be surprised how potent this combo can be, as we’ve demonstrated in our recent drag race video!
You’d also be getting all of the goodies that has been introduced to the model as part of its latest update last year, including the 480-Watt 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, as well as a head-up display. More info on that, here.
