Chery Malaysia has confirmed that it will be expanding its model line-up next year to include plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), beyond the internal combustion engine (ICE) and battery electric (BEV) offerings it currently sells.
Although the company did not reveal which model it was referring to, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+ seems to be the most likely candidate, given that it has already been previewed in Malaysia multiple times – including during the MITI day event this year. Well, and the fact that they’ve already previously confirmed that the model will indeed be coming to Malaysia.

Instead of the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine on the regular Tiggo 8 Pro, the e+ PHEV variant will feature a smaller 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four mill, paired to a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) that consists of two electric motors (traction and regenerative motor).
Altogether, the hybrid powertrain sends a total of 326 hp and 545 Nm to the front wheels. In the Philippines, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+ is equipped with a 19.27 kWh battery, providing up to 75 km of electric driving range (NEDC test cycle), and a total driving range of up to 950 km from a single tank of fuel and a full battery.

Given that Chery has chosen Malaysia as its right-hand drive (RHD) manufacturing hub, we presume the PHEV Tiggo 8 Pro e+ would also be locally assembled here at Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah – if not at launch, then very shortly after.
The model’s petrol counterpart is similarly locally assembled in Malaysia (from launch), and available in a single variant priced from RM159,800.
