Mention SIRIM, and most Malaysians associate it with the assurance of quality, especially for electronic devices. Now, even cars can be SIRIM certified, with the Chery Omoda E5 being the first to achieve this distinction. Specifically, SIRIM has certified the Omoda E5’s battery pack, providing an additional layer of confidence for potential buyers.
This certification for the BYD-sourced battery pack used by the Chery Omoda E5 complements the testing conducted in China under the rigorous UN R100 standard. This standard ensures compliance with international safety and performance benchmarks for reliability, efficiency, and durability.

The Chery Omoda E5 is equipped with a 61 kWh battery pack, providing a WLTP-rated range of 430 km. It supports both AC charging up to 9.9 kW and DC fast charging up to 80 kW. Powering the Omoda E5 is a front mounted electric motor, making 204 hp and 320 Nm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds.

The Chery Omoda E5 is available as a single variant in Malaysia and is priced at RM146,800 on-the-road, without insurance. Inclusive in the price is a seven-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty, and an eight-year/160,000km drive unit warranty which covers the power motor, power motor control unit, power battery management system and the vehicle’s control unit.
Additionally, Chery Malaysia is also offering a one-to-one exchange if the battery’s state of health falls below 70% during the warranty period.
