Good news, Honda fans, after a hiatus spanning over two decades, the Honda Prelude is finally back! Making its first appearance in Asia outside of Japan, the Honda Prelude show car is on full display at KLIMS 2024.
Honda has confirmed that the Prelude will go into production, albeit in hybrid form. While initially confirmed for the European market, its presence at KLIMS 2024 suggests that Honda may be considering a broader release, and we hope it makes its way to Malaysia.
The design of the Honda Prelude show car hints at different design inspirations taken from other brands. The front grille, which slightly overlaps the headlights, seems to be inspired by Toyota’s hammerhead design philosophy.
The rest of the exterior is characterised by flush door handles, a full-width light bar with a distinctive integrated spoiler, and eye-catching multi-spoke alloy wheels. As this is a show car, the interior remains hidden from view, leaving us eager to see what Honda has in store for the production model. Though, we think the show car looks production-ready!

If you are curious about what the powertrain for the Honda Prelude is, in an interview with Carwow, Honda Chief Engineer Tomoyuki Yamagami confirmed that the production version of the Honda Prelude will feature a hybrid powertrain.
While the exact specifications remain undisclosed, Yamagami hinted that the focus will be on delivering an engaging driving experience rather than prioritising outright power.
He explained that a two-motor hybrid system was the most suitable option for the Prelude, stating, “For the concept Prelude we have considered many other kinds of propulsion systems, however, it was quite clear that the two-motor hybrid system we have at the moment is the most suitable in terms of packaging and capability.”
“We wanted to have a full four-seater with sufficient luggage space, while still enabling a low centre of gravity. All of these aspects were in favour of a hybrid powertrain,” Yamagami added.
This suggests that the Prelude may utilise a hybrid system similar to the one found in the Civic e:HEV, which combines a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to produce 181 horsepower. Of course, Honda could also offer one with a higher output – it’s a coupe, after all.
