Dinamikjaya Motors (DJM) has launched the all-new fifth-generation Kia Sportage in Malaysia, marking a significant arrival in the local C-segment SUV market – particularly because it will be locally assembled (CKD) here. The 2024 Kia Sportage is available in four variants, with prices starting from RM149,518 on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of pre-installed accessories.

The dimensions of the Kia Sportage measure 4,660 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width,1,660 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,755 mm. For context, this puts the Kia Sportage slightly smaller than the Honda CR-V.
As Malaysia receives the pre-facelift version of the Kia Sportage, this newcomer SUV sports a bold design, with its Stormtrooper helmet-esque front end from Star Wars, especially with a white paint job. The rear, equally distinctive, features a taillight arrangement creating the illusion of a full-width tail light bar.

The Kia Sportage offers a choice of two powertrains. The first is a 2.0-litre petrol engine that delivers 154 hp and 192 Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox. This engine can be found in the 2.0 and 2.0 High variants.
For those seeking more power, there’s a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 177 hp and 265 Nm, which comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine is available in the 1.6T High and 1.6T High AWD variants. Most Sportage variants are front-wheel drive, but the range-topping 1.6T AWD High variant provides all-wheel drive for enhanced traction.
Safety-wise, the Kia Sportage is equipped with six airbags as standard. The base 2.0 variant misses out on ADAS features, which are available from the 2.0 High variant onwards which include features such as:
- High beam assist (HBA)
- Blind sport collision avoidance assist (BCA)
- Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA)
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)

Additionally, it comes with a five-year free scheduled maintenance package, covering up to five years or 100,000 KM.
The price also includes the V-Zion Film window tint worth RM2,300, which are pre-installed from the factory.
