Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has introduced the GLE 63 S for the first time in Malaysia, in both SUV and Coupe body styles. The SUV starts from RM1,191,888 million while the Coupe starts from RM1,229,888 million. Before this, only the 400 and 450 variants of the GLE were officially available in Malaysia.
Underneath the large front hood rests a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that makes 612 hp and 850 Nm of torque to power all four wheels. The engine is also aided by a 22 hp and 250 Nm electric motor and a 48V electrical system, effectively making both the AMG 63 SUV and Coupe mild-hybrids.

Both the Coupe and SUV are indistinguishable from the front. Both come with the same AMG bumper, revised headlamp graphics and 22-inch 10-spoke wheels. The same wheels are also on the GLE 53 AMG, priced at RM873,888. The GLE 63s are also equipped with the AMG Night Package for a more sinister appearance with gloss black trims on the exterior such as the side mirror caps.

With the large V8 pumping out big numbers, the GLE 63’s 0-100 km/h time is 3.9 seconds. Top speed isn’t electronically-limited to 250 km/h like in ‘lower-ranking’ Mercedes-Benz vehicles, but is raised to 280 km/h. This is credit to the AMG Driver’s Package. The AMG Ride Control+ package gives the GLE 63 air suspension with adaptive damping.
AMG goodies inside include the black Nappa leather seats, AMG steering wheel, carbon trims and red seat belts. With the AMG Track Package, owners can record acceleration times, lap times and monitor various areas of the car.
Completing the interior is the latest MBUX operating system similar to other new Mercedes-Benz cars, a head-up display, panoramic roof, and a 13-speaker Burmester sound system. It also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, of course.
Aside from the GLE 63, Mercedes-Benz also launched the SL63, the facelift G63, the GLC350e and the GLC43 AMG. Seeing as G63 prices have soared beyond the stars, is the GLE63 SUV (in particular) a worthy alternative to the big daddy?
